Sandbank Trip

A sandbank is the Maldives distilled to its essence — a tiny island of pure white sand rising just above the ocean, with no vegetation and nothing but turquoise water in every direction. Sandbanks form and shift naturally with the currents, so each one is a temporary, ever-changing slice of paradise.

From Bodufolhudhoo we take you by boat to a nearby sandbank in the North Ari Atoll, where you'll have the entire stretch of sand to yourselves. The ride is short and scenic, and your guide picks the spot based on the day's conditions and tide. The shallow, crystal-clear water is warm year-round and perfect for swimming, wading, or simply floating.

Snorkeling around the sandbank's edges often reveals surprising marine life — rays, small reef sharks, and colorful fish congregating around the underwater sand slopes. We bring snorkeling equipment so you can explore straight from the sand.

This is the Maldives you've seen in photographs — except you're standing in it. The sense of space and solitude is remarkable. With the low elevation and 360-degree horizon, you feel genuinely surrounded by ocean. Mornings bring the calmest water and the softest light for photographs.

Sandbank trips run year-round; the sea is at its calmest and clearest from November to April. We bring refreshments, snorkeling equipment, and shade if you want it. Some guests spend hours here; others are content with a quick swim and photos. For a special occasion — an anniversary, a proposal, a birthday — we can arrange a private picnic lunch on the sandbank: fresh seafood, tropical fruit, and cold drinks served on the sand.

Full-day trips include a packed lunch and visits to multiple spots. Half-day trips are ideal if you want the sandbank experience alongside other activities.
